Welcome Indie Brand Builders!
This week we’ve seen incredible advancements in AI, including Open AI’s announcement of GPTs, the amazing AI Pin by Humane and Google SGE right around the corner. It’s a whirlwind of change that’s got everyone’s heads spinning. But how can you stay ahead?
In today’s newsletter:
ChatGPT: meet the family! 🤖
Staying ahead in an ever changing world 🤯
Read time: 4 minutes
OpenAI’s developer conference dazzled the world with a new platform to create custom ChatGPT bots called GPTs, inviting a revolution akin to the iPhone’s App Store launch in 2008.
Here are the highlights:
Custom GPTs personalized for your specific use
No coding needed
A new GPT Store, a digital marketplace to buy, sell, and trade GPTs
GPT-4 Turbo: now digesting up to 300 pages at once and knowledge update from April 2023
Integration with DALL·E 3 for image generation
Ramped-up privacy with chats kept confidential
Copyright shield, a safety net against legal woes
Significant cost reduction for developing with GPT-4 Turbo
So after the announcement, I thought I’d give GPTs a shot, and let me tell you, I was seriously impressed! I mean, I whipped up not one, but two experiments in less than 30 minutes.
The real exciting part about this is that literally anyone can create a custom GPT that is completely customized for a specific task or role.
Here’s what I created:
Meal Planner Pro – Upload your cookbook recipes and ChatGPT will create a meal plan with a shopping list of all the ingredients.
NameSpark – Name your business, book, or product with this GPTs special ability to only generate 1 word names. It combines words and creates new words.
Why don’t you have a go?
Will GPTs revolutionize the industry? Maybe? Probably? Yes absolutely.
When Open AI releases a monetizable GPT store I’m confident the floodgates will open. But you don’t necessarily need to wait till then.
Using the Open AI API you can start building tools on this platform right away.
When Humane announced its new AI pin, it really threw me for a loop. Is the world about to be completely transformed by this new tech? Are we entering our Star Trek / Star Wars era?
The AI Pin will use voice search, and given their partnership with Microsoft, will likely use both AI and Bing for searching the web. (ChatGPT also uses Bing.)
Google’s announcement earlier this year about SGE (Search Generative Experience) is the start of a completely new Google.
Search results will be driven by AI.
This has really got me thinking, what does this mean for my business?
What’s the next move?
Here are 3 things you need to do to stay ahead:
Be authentic
At the end of the day, no matter what tech is out there, our customers are real people who respond to authenticity. Don’t get so caught up in the tech that you forget to make your content and marketing real and personalized.
Diversify
I’ve said this for years, even before AI – Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Diversification is the name of the game. Optimize for Bing, create Youtube videos, build a newsletter audience, sell products on TikTok… you get the idea!
Embrace AI
AI is not just a fad, it’s here to stay and if your business is not taking advantage of it, you are falling behind. Use AI, and more importantly AI automation to leverage the assets you already have in your business.
