So whether you’re looking for something easy and fun, saving for college, dreaming of taking a big trip or you’re hoping to make a little money online, read on for the best remote jobs for teens!

Want to Make Money But Don’t Think You Can?

Have you ever heard the expression “youth is wasted on the young”?

All that really means is that you have lots of energy, cutting-edge ideas, time, and fewer responsibilities when you are younger (and adults are jealous of that!)… making it the perfect time for you to start earning money remotely.

Why are remote jobs great for teens?

  • You spend a lot of time online anyway. Why not get paid for it?
  • You understand tech better than most people in your house – large companies like to pay customers to use their products and give reviews.
  • You like to play computer games and listen to music. Get paid for it!
  • You don’t have monthly bills to pay, earning money can be stress-free. Why not try it now and build a great foundation for your future self – or buy those shoes/trip/games you really wanted!

What are the legal requirements to get a remote job?

According to the USA Department of Labour, there are restrictions on how and when you can work as a teen. I’ve gathered some handy info to keep you informed of all the minimum age requirements:

This also varies from state to state, so be sure to check here for your local regulations. It is good news though for teens who want to work smarter, not harder.

The time boundaries work well alongside family and school commitments – making remote work for teens even more appealing!

If you are 14 or 15 years old, you can only work outside of school hours. You may work:

  • Up to 3 hours on a school day, including Friday
  • Up to 18 hours p.w when school is in session
  • Up to 8 hours per day when school is not in session
  • Up to 40 hours per week when school is not in session
  • After 7:00 a.m. or before 7:00 p.m. on any day (except from June 1 st through to Labor Day, when night-time work hours are extended to 9:00 p.m)

For teens that are homeschooled, attend private school, or are un-schooled, the same ideas apply. Follow school hours as above.

There are some exceptions for teens if you have graduated from high school, if you are excused from compulsory school attendance, or if you are enrolled in an enrichment program.

Please check your state for guidance. If you are over the age of 16 there are far less restrictions, more details can be found here.

The Money Info:

As a teen, having the opportunity to earn money from a remote job is really exciting.

Though having to ask your parents for help to get started may be intimidating, it’s worth getting them involved right away.

By obtaining proper backup documentation from an adult in order to set up an account you will be able to open your own bank account or Venmo account.

If you want to use PayPal, a person over the age of 18 will have to set up a Paypal account for you. Once this is complete you’ll be ready to start earning and receiving your own money.

My 11-year-old daughter was very motivated to make some money and attempted to complete surveys on many of these sites, but found them a bit overwhelming. Most of the surveys were over her head.
